Comes home on Monday. Due on Friday.
Your child will bring home their Meadowmere folder each Monday. Inside will be the packet of first grade sight words, two books for your child to keep, a copy of the weekly spelling words and a few Math workbook pages. During the week, have your child read the books to you three or more times. Quiz him/her on sight words daily. Remember, homework should only take about 10 minutes each day - not counting reading time.
The most important part of homework is reading. It is so important for your child to read to you each and every day for about 20 minutes. The 20 minutes does not have to be all at once. Try to read for 5 minutes and then go play outside. Come in and read for 5 minutes before dinner. Then read another 5 minutes after dinner and finally 5 minutes before bed. Have your child write down any book he/she reads on the reading log in his/her daily folder.
On Friday, your child should bring back the Meadowmere folder back to school with the sight word packet and completed math pages. The books are yours to keep. Try setting up a shoe box library to keep the books in. Your child can read them anytime and always add them to his/her reading log.
Reading logs will be collected every two weeks. The expectation in first grade is to read 40 books per quarter.
